History of Our Club

It was decided at the first meeting of 2006 to try and establish a club history so surfers can see a little about the CJSC.  This has been a long drawn out task reading thru minutes books, correspondence files and general information dating back to 1965.  The below information is a general outline of some of the things the club has been involved with for the last 40 years.  Everything here has been taken from actual writings held by the club
If anyone can offer other information that can be verified in writing, we would be very interested to know.  Everything here has been taken from actual club notes.  The more we research, the more we will add.

1965 *First mention of club found.

1974 *Various names used within the club, ie Cootamundra United Soccer Ladies Auxiliary, Cootamundra United Soccer Club, Cootamundra Junior Soccer Mothers Club.

         *Membership, 25cents.

1975 *Playing Wagga Wagga teams.

         *Forbes invitation competition.

1976 *Change from Caravan to newly constructed Kiosk at Mitchell Park.

         * I have been told the Kiosk was nick named Callagans Castle.

*Played Campbelltown in Campbelltown.

1977 *Junior Soccer began 16th April at Temora with soccer being played in one town each week rotating between Temora, Coota and Young.

         *Cootamundra Junior Soccer Mothers Club purchased guernsey’s for second senior team.

         *Discussion about sponsorship for teams.

1978 *Quandialla joined competition.

1979 *May, Close of Cootamundra United soccer Ladies Auxiliary.

         *A club information sheet states “club colours are blue and white….. shorts white with socks plain navy blue with two white bands at the top.  Shirts supplied…..”

1981 *Participation in Champions of Champions.

         *Hosted the State U11s Soccer Finals.

1982 *Part of South West Slopes Soccer Association

         *Players insurance for the club was $101.75 and public liability insurance was $45.15

         *Teams playing in Competition were Tumut, Harden, Quandialla, Temora and Young.

         *Five teams participated in Forbes carnival.

1983 *Competition started on 9th April with age groups from U7s thru to U16s.

         *First mention of Blue Light Discos.

         *August, Indoor Soccer started at stadium.

*Cootamundra United Soccer Club and Cootamundra Junior Soccer Club became separate entities.

1984 *March, Permission for girls to play this season was given.  150 boys and one girl registered.

         *Cootamundra South and Cootamundra North teams present.

         *Parents and children attended Borambola camp.

1985 *Invitational games against Campbelltown.

         *Presentations given for 20 years of service with the club.  John and Ethel Huntington made life members.

1986 *Arn Rowlings made selection for the U14s boys state team.

         *Young no longer in the competition but Lambing Flats now affiliated with U11s and U13s.

1987 *Cowra competition.

         *Newsletter no 2 reminded coaches and spectators that they are not allowed behind the goals while the game is in play.

         *Three boys were selected into the Centre of Excellence coaching school.

1988 *Cootamundra Junior Soccer club became incorporated.

1989 *Cowra Carnival.

1990 *Cootamundra Seniors Club use Mitchell Park as their home ground.

1991 *Nepean VS Sutherland competition game played at Mitchell Park.

1992 *Gundagai entered SWS competition.

         *9 players picked for Riverina squad and three players participating in EuroTour.

1993 *166 players registered.

*Young Carnival.

*Amenities extension to Kiosk.

1994 *May, Club policy for all goalies to wear safety headgear.

         *245 official player registrations.

         *During ground improvement, including underground watering system, of Mitchell Park, Albert Park was utilised.

1995 *The John Clune Trophy was inaugurated.

         *New field markings in place on Mitchell Park.

         *Hosted Riverina Branch Championships for the 12s and 13s division with Griffith, Wagga, Albury and SWS fielding sides.

         * 232 registered players.

         *Official opening of new club house, 17th June.

1996 *260 players registered.

         *2 players selected for Riverina squad.

1997 *Club introduced a change from North and South Coota to Coota Blues and Coota Whites.

1999 *Awning added to Kiosk.

2000 *Drawings and proposal of 7.5 hectare playing fields within airport complex.  Did not get off the ground.

2001 *A third club side was introduced, Coota Royals. (?)

2004 *356 reg.

2005 *322 reg.

2007 *We had 6 representatives in the NSW Country teams at various age levels.  Kristy Collingridge and Hayley Ballard in the under 17s, Deanna Fallon under 15s, Jenna Collingridge and Sarah Godman under 14s and Thomas Meehan under 14s.  Jenna was also picked in the select 11 as well as co-captained the team at the games.
